'Asmitai Vars' launched to mark 60 yrs of Opinion Poll

Stalwart of the Opinion Poll movement, Adv Uday Bhembre unveils the commemorative poster of Asmitai Vars organised by Madganvcho Awaaz on Opinion Poll Day.

Terming it a commendable initiative, stalwart of the Opinion Poll movement and former Margao MLA Adv Uday Bhembre said that Madganvcho Awaaz’s decision to commemorate 60 years of the historic Opinion Poll through year-long activities was both timely and meaningful.
He observed that while crores are spent on events today which are forgotten the very next day, it is important that activities are planned in a manner that they become milestones for future generations.
Adv. Bhembre was speaking after unveiling the commemorative poster of “Asmitai Vars”, which begins today, organised by Madganvcho Awaaz to mark 60 years of the historic Opinion Poll of 1967. Youth leader Prabhav Naik and social worker Dattaraj Pai Fondekar were present on the occasion.
Expressing pride in carrying forward a rich legacy linked to the Opinion Poll movement, Prabhav Naik said he was honoured to continue the contributions of his great-grandfather Narcinva Naik and grandfather Anant alias Babu Naik, whose roles in the historic movement are well known. He added that Madganvcho Awaaz will continue to honour eminent Goans who have contributed to safeguarding Goa’s identity, language and culture.
As part of the launch of Asmitai Vars, Madganvcho Awaaz honoured living stalwarts of the Opinion Poll movement by personally visiting their residences and presenting them with a memento, shawl and bouquet as a mark of respect and gratitude.
Those honoured included Adv Uday Bhembre, Prof. Shyam Verencar, Smriti Audi, Aruna Telang, N Shivdas, Sadanand Kanekar and Tomazinho Cardozo, all of whom played significant roles in the historic movement that shaped Goa’s destiny.
