Mopa Airport Authority gets hiring powers

The Goa Legislative Assembly on Friday passed The Goa (Mopa Airport Development Authority) (Amendment) Bill by a voice vote. The amendment permits the authority to hire manpower, either on contract or on a regular basis, to carry out its functions.
The amendment, piloted by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, mentions that the staff costs of such hiring will be borne by the Authority from its own resources.
Another Bill passed by the House was the Goa Non-Biodegradable Garbage (Control) (Amendment) Bill, also moved by Sawant. It aims to set up an 'Authority' to administer the refund scheme for the deposit of non-biodegradable materials.
The bill provides for cthe reation of the “Goa Deposit Refund Scheme Authority” for the State, which will comprise a chairman to be appointed by the government and a chartered accountant.
Other members of the authority include the Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, the Commissioner of Excise, Controller of Legal Metrology, Director of Municipal Administration, Director of Panchayats, Managing Director of Goa Waste Management Corporation, Member Secretary of Goa State Pollution Control Board, Director of Tourism, Project Director of Goa Coastal and Environment Management Society, Additional Project Director, Goa Coastal and Environment Management Society and any other member co-opted by the Authority.
