Saying the BJP is slowly gaining ground in minority Salcete, BJP State President Damu Naik on Wednesday said the day is not far when the Lotus will bloom even in constituencies such as Benaulim and Nuvem.
He said the party has not discriminated against people based on caste and creed but has taken up development across the state.
The BJP organised the Karyakarta Melava in Benaulim and Nuvem on Wednesday as part of the party’s ongoing working meetings across the state.
When the media asked whether the BJP is going to the minority areas with the Salcete mission in mind, Damu said there is no Salcete mission on the party’s agenda. “The party believes in carrying out development in all the 40 Assembly constituencies. We do not discriminate between the ruling and opposition constituencies and constituencies based on religion,” he said.
He added: “The Party has won in Margao, Fatorda, Cuncolim and Navelim. This shows that the party’s base is expanding in the minority stronghold. Just because the government is ruled by the BJP, we have not discriminated against minorities. People have realised this and they are slowly coming to the party. You can see this change with the composition of the BJP MLAs who hail from all sections of society,” he said.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Tanavade exhorted the party workers from Benaulim to strengthen the party base ahead of the future elections. “If the Lotus has bloomed in Navelim in 2022, there is no reason why the party will not win in Benaulim in the coming polls. It all depends on the party workers to take the party to the people by taking the schemes and the achievements of the government to the doorsteps of the people,” he said.
Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar said the party workers should start working in earnest and lay the foundation for the party’s victory in Benaulim.
