Hubballi Division of South Western Railway observed World Environment Day on Thursday at Shri Siddharudh Swamiji Hubballi Station premises.
On the occasion Divisional Railway Manager Bela Meena administered a pledge on environment and cleanliness at Hubballi railway station. Later on, a plantation programme was also conducted. Speaking on the occasion, Meena emphasised that everyone must contribute towards building a greener environment.
Additional Divisional Railway Manager (OP) T.V Bhushan, Additional Divisional Railway Manager (General), Preamchandra Harijan, Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer (Environment and Housekeeping Management) Akhilesh Kumar Tripathi, Senior Divisional Personnel Officer R Prasad along with other senior officials, graced the occasion.
As part of its green initiative, the Railway Department has undertaken a massive tree plantation drive. More than 250 saplings have been planted at Rail Soudha, New Vidyaranya nagar, Running Room premises, and Pump House at Devaragudihal. Plantation includes a variety of fruit-bearing and ornamental species such as Red Guava, Mango, Custard Apple, Lemon, Sapota, Wild Sweetsop, Indian gooseberry, Pomegranate and Royal Poinciana.
