The District & Sessions Court on Wednesday granted conditional bail to medalist boxer, Pushpender Rathi, charged with allegedly raping a young medical student on the false pretext of marriage.
The Court has released him on bail bond of Rs 1 lakh with one surety of the like amount with other conditions such as not to tamper with the evidence and not to contact the victim, her family as well as witnesses in any manner, to remain present before the investigating officer and the Court as and when required, etc.
The 21-year-old victim has accused Rathi of repeatedly subjecting her to sexual assault in Goa and other places while promising to marry her. However, when she and her family approached him with the marriage proposal, he backed out, prompting her family to seek legal action against the boxer.
The women’s police are also expected to summon a female world champion as a witness to this case, as she allegedly introduced Rathi and the victim during a boxing championship in Hyderabad around two years ago.
