The Calangute comunidade, at its extraordinary general body meeting held on Sunday, resolved to explore legal remedies against the recently passed Goa Regularisation of Unauthorized Construction (Amendment) Bill, 2025. Members expressed concern that the amendment could adversely affect comunidade lands and unanimously agreed to seek legal advice with a view to filing a writ petition before the High Court of Bombay at Goa.

Another issue that came up for deliberation was the ongoing installation of electricity towers in the area.

Members alleged that the process was being undertaken without adherence to the due process of law.

“The body resolved to obtain legal opinion from senior advocates and, pending such advice, consider issuing a stop order to prevent any unauthorized installation,” a shareholder who attended the meeting said requesting anonymity.

The comunidade also took a firm stand on road infrastructure projects, unanimously resolving that the government must strictly follow statutory procedures before commencing any road-widening activities or felling trees along the stretch from Palmaria to St Alex Church.

In routine business, the comunidade announced that dividends payable to its shareholders will be disbursed on all Thursdays during the month of November 2025.
