Congress slams BJP over fourth fuel price hike this month

PANAJI: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee has criticised the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in Goa after petrol prices were hiked by Rs 2.61 per litre and diesel by Rs 2.71 per litre, marking the fourth fuel price hike in less than two weeks.

In a press release issued today, GPCC Media and Communication Department Chairman Amarnath Panjikar said the BJP’s “double engine government” has become a “double trouble government” for common people already struggling with inflation.

“People are already battling rising prices of cooking gas, food items, medicines, and other essential commodities. Instead of providing relief, the BJP Government is continuously increasing the burden on common citizens through fuel price hikes,” Panjikar said.

Questioning the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Panjikar asked why fuel prices continue to rise despite repeated promises of economic relief and stability.

“The country deserves answers on why fuel prices are skyrocketing despite repeated promises of economic stability and relief,” he said.

Taking aim at the BJP’s priorities, Panjikar alleged that the government was ignoring inflation and unemployment while focusing on public relations exercises and foreign visits.

“While people in India are struggling to survive under crushing inflation, the Prime Minister is busy distributing ‘Melodi’ chocolates during foreign visits rather than delivering meaningful relief to citizens back home,” he remarked.

Panjikar further stated that repeated fuel price hikes would directly impact transportation costs and increase prices of vegetables, milk, groceries, and other essentials, affecting middle-class families, youth, taxi operators, and small businesses.

Demanding immediate intervention, he urged the Central Government to reduce excise duties on petrol and diesel and provide relief to citizens facing mounting inflationary pressure.
