The Porvorim police have arrested 26-year-old Jagdish Bokolia from Chembur, Mumbai, in connection with a Rs 9.5 lakh task-based cyber fraud.

William Anthony Cardozo, a 52-year-old resident of Penha de Franca, had lodged a complaint stating that between May 25 and June 2, 2025, he was lured into a fraudulent part-time job scheme.

The accused, initially unidentified, offered Cardozo an opportunity to earn Rs 40 per Google review and instructed him to install the Telegram app to complete the preliminary tasks. After receiving small payments that helped build trust, Cardozo was subsequently persuaded to transfer a total of Rs 9,50,149 through multiple transactions via GPay, ATM transfers, and other modes. He later realized he had been defrauded.

Following a detailed investigation, on June 28, 2025, Sub-Inspector Arun Shirodkar, along with police constables Akshay Navelkar, Hemant Gaonkar, and Rishikesh Shetkar, travelled to Mumbai and apprehended Bokolia in Chembur for further questioning.

Porvorim Police have registered an offence against the accused under Section 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66(d) of the Information Technology Act. Further investigation is underway.
