The Goa Forward party has taken exception to the road digging activity along the Pilar-Neura road during the Novenas and feast of St Francis Xavier, saying the activity has only caused hardships to devotees visiting Old Goa.

He also slammed the government over its failure to regulate traffic at Cortalim, saying the traffic snarls witnessed on both sides of the Zuari bridge have come in the way of the devotees making pilgrimage to Old Goa.

Saying that St Francis Xavier is being revered by Goans and people from outside as Goencho Saib, said devotees heading to Old Goa had to undergo hardships because of the traffic snarls due to road digging and failure to regulate traffic.

“The Chief Minister is busy campaigning in Gujarat and in New Delhi, but the police machinery has failed to regulate traffic on roads leading to Old Goa. During the Parrikar regime, the then government had made special arrangements for smooth flow of traffic. These arrangements seemed totally missing even though curtains have come down on IFFI festival”, he added.
