Five fishermen among six rescued from drowning along Goa Coast over weekend

PANAJI: Six people, including five fishermen, were rescued from drowning in separate incidents along Goa’s coastline over the weekend. The incidents also included a missing child being reunited with his family and a kayaker receiving medical attention.

The first major rescue occurred at Mandrem Beach, where four fishermen were trapped in a boat caught in rough waves. Quick action by marine rescue teams using jet skis ensured all four were brought safely ashore. At Colva Beach, a 36-year-old fisherman from Chhattisgarh became exhausted while swimming back from his anchored boat, calling for help mid-way. Rescue teams promptly reached him on a jet ski and brought him to safety.

Miramar Beach saw a man under the influence of alcohol being pulled from rough waters. Though initially unresponsive, his pulse and breathing were stable. He was handed over to medical personnel and taken to the hospital, where his condition is reported as stable.

At Baga Beach, a three-year-old boy from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, who had gone missing, was located and reunited with his family following identification procedures. Meanwhile, at Arambol beach, a 26-year-old man from Bengaluru dislocated his right hand while kayaking with friends. Rescue teams provided first aid and handed him over to medical personnel; he is reported to be stable.
