In a momentous event that has captivated the hearts of the community, Sister Venita Fernandes from Balli in South Goa was elected as the Superior General of the Sisters of Charity of the Saints Bartolomea Capitanio and Vincenza Gerosa.

Sister Venita Fernandes, the eldest of five sisters, has always been a beacon of strength and determination. From an early age, she exemplified deep-rooted faith and an unrelenting dedication to serve others.
The journey of Sister Venita Fernandes is an inspiring one. She completed her primary education at St Xavier’s High School in Velim and continued her high school education at Maria Bambina Convent High School in Cuncolim.
Upon completing her higher secondary education at Damodar College in Margao, she entered her religious career with the Sisters of Charity as a Novice.
Throughout her life, Sister Venita embodied the virtues of humility, compassion, and selflessness. A lifelong commitment to her mission and her infectious joy has touched the lives of countless individuals, exemplifying the true essence of her calling.
She draws inspiration from her late father, Minguel Fernandes and her mother, Ilda Borges who has been a constant source of strength and encouragement, nurturing her unwavering dedication to service.
Venita entered the religious life after passing her HSSC examination. After successfully completing her Noviciate at Dharwar she pronounced her First Profession and was posted at their convent in Secunderabad.
Side by side, Sister Venita was assigned tasks and positions of responsibility within the Organization which she successfully completed with distinction to gradually climb up the hierarchical ladder.
As a formator, she has been Novice Directress, Superior, and Provincial Councillor. These tasks have afforded her a wide experience and knowledge of the different regions in which her congregation operates; she was also invollved in the animations to Sisters in Bangladesh and Myanmar. During the last five years she was an Assistant Superior General.
As Sister Venita assumes the onerous role of Superior General, her leadership is anticipated to be marked by compassion, wisdom, and an unflinching commitment to the service of others. Through her ability to lead with humility and grace, she will undoubtedly bring about transformative changes in the community and serve as an inspiration to all.
