RGP St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar on Wednesday raised serious concerns in the Goa Legislative Assembly about the deteriorating condition of the only bridge connecting over 200 residents of Juvem in Nadora village – the smallest island in the State – to the mainland.
Highlighting the plight of the 33 affected households, Borkar said the bridge has been declared unsafe by the Deputy Collector of Bardez, rendering vehicular movement impossible and posing a serious threat of isolation.
“With no alternative route, the residents live in constant fear. Construction of a new bridge must be taken up on priority to safeguard their lives and restore connectivity,” Borkar urged.
Responding to the issue, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant assured the House that both short-term and long-term solutions are being implemented.
“Our minister and officials have already visited the site. Immediate repair work on the existing bridge will be taken up, and the foundation stone for a new bridge will be laid by February,” Sawant announced.
The assurance brings hope to the Juvem residents, who have been facing increasing hardship due to the lack of safe access, particularly during emergencies and monsoon months.
