Gujarat gang wanted in UP for duping people, arrested in Sangolda

A three-member Gujarati gang accused of duping people in Uttar Pradesh through online frauds was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police with the help of Saligao Police at Sangolda.

After having allegedly cheated many people in Uttar Pradesh, cases were registered in the Fatehpur Cyber Crime Police and other police stations. The gang is also alleged to have duped the daughter of an IPS officer in Uttar Pradesh to the tune of Rs 10 lakh.

Since then, the Uttar Pradesh Police had been on the trail of this gang, who would frequently change locations.

The accused had come to Goa earlier this month and had rented a guest house in Sangolda. The Uttar Pradesh Cyber Crime Police received information about their presence in Goa and a team rushed to the State.

As soon as it became clear that the accused were in Sangolda, the Fatehpur Cyber Police sought help from Saligao Police. The police raided the guest house on Monday midnight and arrested the suspects, Umang Patel, Biren Patel and Jigar Patel, all from Gujarat.

The police also seized 9 laptops, around 40 mobile phones, around 100 ATM cards, credit cards, cheque books and other materials from the suspects.

The Fatehpur Cyber Crime Police later took all three suspects on transit remand and left for Uttar Pradesh.
