As many as 110 professionals, including 65 practicing doctors, from the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Goa Chapter and healthcare personnel representing leading multi-disciplinary hospitals across the State participated in a one-day workshop on hospital fire safety and security.

The programme was jointly initiated by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Fire & Security Association of India (FSAI) Goa Chapter, marking a significant collaborative effort toward strengthening hospital safety standards. The Chief Guest was Pranab Ghosh, CEO & Executive Director, Automobile Corporation of Goa.

FSAI President (Goa chapter) Anand Ramakrishana welcomed the gathering and briefed about the concept of the special workshop for Health care sector. He said hospitals and allied healthcare industries operate in environments that are inherently vulnerable to fire risks.

He briefed about why a hospital fire can occur if care is not taken as high occupancy levels, oxygen enriched atmospheres, sensitive medical equipment, and continuous operations create complex fire safety challenges.

Even a minor incident can have catastrophic consequences — risking patient lives, disrupting medical services, and damaging critical infrastructure, he added.

The key deliberations, insights, and recommendations emerging from the workshop have been consolidated in this report for reference and future action.

The event proved highly impactful, culminating in a major decision to formalise a continued joint initiative between IMA Goa State and FSAI.

This partnership aims to further enhance awareness, training, and implementation of hospital fire safety and security measures at all levels, ensuring safer healthcare environments for the community.
