Stating that it is committed to protecting the integrity of community lands, the Loliem-Polem Comunidade has identified 79 illegal houses and encroachments in two areas alone and has appealed to stakeholders to cooperate in efforts to uphold the law of the land.
Through a team engaged by the comunidade, 79 illegal houses and encroachments were identified at Dapot and Madditalap areas following the High Court’s directives to vacate all encroachments on comunidade land.
"Based on available records, our team has identified 79 illegal houses/encroachments, and we have submitted these illegalities to the Administrator of Comunidade, South Zone, Margao,” informed Loliem-Polem Comunidade president Vishwajit Warik.
Loliem-Polem Comunidade expects to identify more illegalities and encroachments in the common lands elsewhere in the village.
Speaking further, Warik said, “A joint survey with our team and surveyor will be conducted on July 20, to identify and confirm the remaining houses and encroachments. We urge all stakeholders to cooperate with our efforts to protect comunidade land and uphold the law.”
“Our efforts to protect comunidade land are ongoing. We appreciate the support of our community members and stakeholders in this endeavour,” Warik added.
