Curtorim villagers raised objections to work on a non-development slope on Wednesday.

The Panchbhatt in Maina-Curtorim on Wednesday witnessed an uproar after agitated residents hit the streets to stop work in a plot they claimed was a non-development slope.
After the villagers complained to the flying squad of the TCP Department, officials arrived at the site and ordered a stop to the work.
The villagers, led by ex-ZP and Curtorim Congress leader Moreno Rebelo, confronted those working on the site with a JCB. Moreno told the media that though the police came to the site, they expressed their helplessness, forcing the villagers to inform the Flying Squad and Forest Department.
Moreno and the villagers told the media that they would never allow the project in Curtorim, as the property was converted to a settlement zone when it initially consisted of a Non-Development Slope (NDS), paddy fields and orchard land, which would have a detrimental effect on the ecology of Curtorim.
