MARGAO
A minor boy from Navelim had a miraculous escape on Friday afternoon after a portion of a dilapidated building collapsed in Margao, crushing several vehicles parked below. The child was seated inside one of the ill-fated cars at the time of the incident.
According to eyewitnesses, the boy’s mother had left him inside the parked car while she stepped into the nearby market to get an umbrella repaired. Moments later, a portion of the building’s slab came crashing down, severely damaging the vehicle.
“It’s nothing short of divine intervention that my son didn’t even suffer a scratch,” said the relieved mother. “I had just gone to the market and within minutes, the building collapsed.”
In another narrow escape, the owner of a second car parked in the same vicinity told media that he had vacated the area mere minutes before the debris fell. “My wife and I had come to the market. I had just stepped away from the vehicle when the structure came down,” he said, pointing to the mangled remains of his car.
All affected vehicle owners were seen waiting at the site for the completion of the police panchanama. DySP Sidhant Shirodkar directed the police to expedite the process so that the damaged vehicles could be cleared for repair.
