Even as the search for the remaining part of the infant's body failed to yield result, St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar and former MLA Francisco Silveira visited the site to take stock of the situation.

Later, speaking to The Goan both demanded that thorough investigation has to be done in the matter and the case resolved so that the infant gets justice.

Expressing shock over the incident, MLA Borkar said that such an incident has never happened in the sleepy village of Mandur which is known for harmony.

However, in recent times it has been noticed that many migrants are staying on rent here and there is a possibility that this work could also be of the migrants, Borkar said.

The police should conduct thorough investigation in the matter and get to the root of the case so that the culprit is arrested and the infant gets justice, Borkar added.

Former MLA Silveira too said that it was a shocking incident and demanded that the police should solve the case and catch the culprit behind the same.

“And I believe that the police led by Agassaim PI are capable enough to solve the case, Silveira informed.

Voices grow for

tenant verification  ( subhead)

Even as the case of the finding of infants feet at Tari Vaddo-Mandur failed to get a breakthrough, the chorus has been growing that the handiwork could be of the migrants, either residing on rent in the village or from the surrounding villages.

In light of the above, demand is being made in various corners that the police should conduct extensive tenants verification drive in Mandur which they say will definitely help in the case.

And to begin with, Mandur sarpanch Prashant Naik demanded that the police should take the issue of tenants verification seriously as there are many houses given on rent but no tenants verification is done.

During one meeting with the officials concerned, I had raised the issue that tenants verification in Mandur should be done but nothing has been done on the front, Naik said while adding that now, at least, the police should undertake the verification as there is every possibility that some light would be thrown in the matter.

Former sarpanch Ajit Bacal, too, demanded that the issue of tenants verification has to be taken very seriously in Mandur as there are many migrants residing in rented rooms and without any verification.

“This incident of infants feet found in the village should act as an eye-opener to the law enforcing authorities as such acts could be handiwork only of migrants, Bacal opined while demanding that the village panchayat should also be shared details of the people staying on rent.

Panch Francisco Po too made a demand for tenants verification in the village, particularly in his ward, where the owners who give rooms on rent do not bother to provide information to the police.

“With the identity of the persons staying on rent not known, it poses a threat to the locals and the police should treat this incident as a warning, and conduct the tenants verification before any further untoward incident occurs, Po demanded.
