A case of murder has been registered at Mormugao Police Station against one Rahul Kumar Saini, a resident of Baina and native of Bihar, after a youth he allegedly assaulted succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim.

Police said the incident took place on May 25 when Saini allegedly attacked Rajesh Majhe, also a native of Bihar, with a wooden stick during a fight inside a rented room at Baina. The assault left Majhe with serious head injuries, following which he was shifted to GMC for medical treatment.

Saini was initially arrested under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and was remanded to four days of police custody.

However, police sources confirmed that the victim succumbed to his injuries during treatment, prompting the addition of Section 103 (murder) of BNS to the case and a murder case was registered at the Mormugao Police Station.

The accused was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) on Saturday and has now been remanded to another four days of police custody.

Mormugao Police Inspector Sherif Jacques is conducting further investigations into the case under the supervision of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
