MLA inaugurates water harvesting project

MARGAO: Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao has inaugurated a rooftop water harvesting project at Guirdolim, assuring the installation of more such projects in the future.

The Leader of Opposition said it is a very important initiative by the Water Resources Department, which helps harvest rainwater. “These projects were commissioned at Paloti Niwas and St. Francis Xavier Chapel in Guirdolim-Cuncolim. This initiative aims to promote rainwater conservation and mitigate water scarcity. We plan to implement more such projects to benefit the community and address water shortage issues effectively,” Alemao said.

He said that harvesting rainwater from rooftops will help reduce stormwater runoff and mitigate water scarcity.

“This is a cost-effective solution for water conservation. We see many organisations working on rainwater harvesting. It is commendable work as it supports our livelihood. We need to support such initiatives, which would be a contribution to society,” Alemao said.

Alemao emphasised the importance of utilising the harvested water effectively, stating, “We must ensure these projects serve their purpose. By harnessing rainwater, we can make a significant contribution to society.”

He also highlighted the simplicity and maintainability of the technology used in rooftop water harvesting projects.
