A fact-finding committee set up by the State government visited Shirgao on Saturday evening and convened a special meeting with various representatives, as part of a probe into the tragedy which claimed six lives and injuries to 80 others.
The fact-finding committee chaired by Revenue Secretary Sandip Jacques (IAS) along with members Deputy Inspector General of Police Varsha Sharma (IPS), Transport Director Pravimal Abhishek (IAS) and Tikam Singh Verma (IPS) visited the site of the tragedy and other places to take stock of the incident. Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye and Mayem MLA Premendra Shet and other officials were also present along with the fact-finding committee.
Later, the committee along with the MLAs and the temple committee members and some other villagers held a meeting in the hall of the Shirgao temple to deliberate into the sequence of events leading to the tragedy.
Later speaking to reporters after the meeting, Jacques said fact-finding committee is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident and probing all angles to ascertain the cause of the tragedy.
“Our work is underway on a war footing to investigate from all sides, to find out the sequence of events and how exactly the incident had happened. The investigation will take a day or two,” said Revenue Secretary Sandip Jacques.
