The long-standing dispute over civilian access to key religious sites in Vasco — including the Ram Mandir, Kali Mandir, and Syrian Orthodox Church — has been amicably resolved following the intervention of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Vasco MLA Krishna (Daji) Salkar.
The dispute had arisen after access to these religious sites was reportedly restricted by the Indian Navy due to land ownership concerns.
Acting promptly on the matter, Salkar sought the intervention of Chief Sawant to ensure that public access to these places of worship was not hampered.
Following discussions, the Chief Minister instructed the FOGA to take up the matter on priority. A mutually agreeable solution was reached with the CM approving the allocation of alternate land for the Navy, thereby allowing uninterrupted access to the religious sites for the local civilian population.
Salkar expressed his gratitude to the chief minister, FOGA, and BJP State President Damu Naik for understanding and respecting the sentiments of the community and facilitating a resolution.
“This is a victory for the people of Vasco. I thank the Chief Minister and all involved for ensuring both national security interests and public religious sentiments were honoured,” said Salkar.
