A 46-year-old police constable from Dhargal died in a self-accident near the Maharingan temple in Mandrem early Thursday morning.
According to reports, the mishap took place at about 6:30 am when Shubham Gadekar was proceeding to duty at the Siolim Coastal Security Police Station.
Gadekar lost control of his two-wheeler and the vehicle rammed into a roadside vehicle repair garage. He sustained serious injuries and was shifted to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
Mandrem police conducted a panchanama and have sent the body for an autopsy.
Locals have, however, voiced concern over the many roadside garages along the roads in Mandrem constituency.
Many motorists have been involved in mishaps after striking vehicles parked at these roadside garages.
