CEO, DEO assess preparedness; law and order arrangements in place

The election authorities, comprising Chief Electoral Officer Sanjay Goel and South Goa District Electoral Officer Egna Cleetus, on Wednesday reviewed the law and order security arrangements for the Ponda by-election in a meeting with all the nodal officers.
The meeting, convened by the Chief Electoral Officer, was attended by senior officials, including ADM (Law & Order), SP South, SP (Election), DySP, and representatives from various departments.
It was informed that adequate law and order arrangements are in place, with two Additional District Magistrates already appointed. Flying Squad Teams, Static Surveillance Teams and Sector Magistrates have been deployed, and no vulnerable or critical polling stations have been identified. Polling personnel have been appointed and training schedules finalised. EVM and VVPAT management, including randomisation and secure storage, is being carried out in strict adherence to ECI guidelines.
Arrangements for postal ballots, including home voting for senior citizens and persons with disabilities, were also reviewed. The role of the District MCMC in monitoring media and curbing paid news was highlighted.
It was also informed that no complaints have been received on the C-VIGIL app so far.
The CEO directed that home voting be completed within the stipulated timeline and emphasised that cancellation of election duty will be permitted only on genuine grounds.
The District Election Management Plan was also launched following the meeting. The meeting concluded with the assurance that all necessary arrangements are in place for the free, fair, and smooth conduct of the by-election to the 21-Ponda Assembly Constituency.
