Illegal and unauthorised waste dumping in Benaulim turned violent when local activist Roque Fernandes was allegedly manhandled by those involved. Locals rushed to help the activist and reportedly confronted the group, said to be from Uttar Pradesh. In the scuffle, one person was injured.

The incident took place after the activist was alerted about illegal dumping at the site. When he reached the spot, he found garbage being dumped openly, creating an eyesore.

Roque said he was assaulted when he questioned the group about the dumping. “Some locals who were passing by later confronted them. I am shocked that people from Uttar Pradesh are dumping waste in Benaulim. It is high time the authorities take action to stop this,” he said.

However, one of the injured persons from the group claimed he was attacked by locals despite assuring them that the garbage would be cleared from the site.
