PORVORIM
The Goa Housing Board has provided 2000 sq metres of land opposite Goa Cricket Academy to the Directorate of Health Services to construct a Primary Health Centre, thanks to the initiative taken by Tourism Minister MLA Rohan Khaunte.

The existing non-bedded Primary Health Centre is located at PWD quarters in Porvorim. This non-bedded health centre operates from 9 am to 5 pm. The Out-Patient Department (OPD) operates until 12 noon, conducting immunization programmes, issuing No Objection Certificates for buildings, restaurants, etc, and attending to other administrative work.

Sources from the health centre informed that the new health centre building will be ground plus two storied, and it will have a General OPD, Ayurvedic OPD, Geriatric OPD, and Dental OPD. With the national highway in the vicinity, road accidents happen frequently on the stretch and hence, a trauma unit has also been proposed at the new centre.

Besides X-ray facilities, it will also have a Dialysis Unit. Antenatal and postnatal services will also be provided to the patients. If permitted, the primary centre will have at least 10 beds to start with, said the sources.

The health centre caters to around 40,000 people, covering villages of Penha de Franca, Salvador do Mundo, Socorro, and Guirim. When the health centre started in April 2016, on average, four to five patients used to visit the General OPD. Presently, around 200 patients visit the OPD of the health centre every day. Over the last five years, the workload of the health centre has increased immensely, the sources added.
