PRASAD scheme project: ASI assures to probe matter, act

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has taken cognisance of complaints received from various quarters regarding the demand for stoppage of work on the heritage interpretation center project under Prasad scheme at Old Goa.

In the replies submitted to the complainants, the ASI Superintending Archaeologist has stated that the GTDC Managing Director has been directed to stop the work undertaken in survey numbers 154/1, 2 & 3 of village Ella.

The ASI has further stated that they will investigate the matter and take necessary course of action.

Among those who complained to the ASI about the work on the heritage interpretation centre included the Save Old Goa Action Committee, Goa Green Brigade, Ponda local John Mascarenhas, Old Goa local Glen Cabral and others.

The ASI has also notified the chief minister, Cumbarjua MLA, ASI Regional Director (South), Tourism Director, Se Old Goa Sarpanch/Secretary, Se Cathedral parish priest, Fr Noel D'Costa from the Bishop’s House, Tiswadi Town Planner, Old Goa police inspector and others.

It may be recalled that the public has raised their opposition to the PRASAD scheme project against the backdrop of canon balls being found in the area during excavation work.
