Revenue Minister Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate on Wednesday told the Goa Legislative Assembly that the proposal for a third district in Goa is "still under review".
Monserrate made the statement during his reply to the discussion on the demands for grants pertaining to the Revenue department, Labour and Employment, the two District Collectorates and other departments under his charge.
Earlier last week, a concrete proposal for the creation of a third district had received an in-principle nod from the Pramod Sawant-led cabinet aimed at attracting more funds for human-development related projects from the Centre and focused progress of the areas proposed to be part of this district, hitherto backward — Dharbandora, Quepem, Sanguem and Canacona talukas.
Meanwhile, speaking on Science and Technology, another department for which he had moved demands for grants, Monserrate said grants will henceforth be given to schools to organise science-related activities and programmes. He said the department also tasted success in its efforts to secure GI tags for several Goan products.
On labour and employment, Monserrate raised doubts over the unemployment data of the Central government. He said an ESI hospital will come up in Mulgaon, which will cater to nearly two lakh workers.
Responding to issues raised by legislators during the discussion on the demands, Monserrate said some integration of powers between officials of the Revenue, Registration and the Settlement and Land Records Departments has been worked out to deal with mutation.
"Powers have been given to the sub-registrars to issue mutation certificates in relation to those cases where rights have been acquired through instruments issued by them. Ordinarily, mutation is otherwise dealt with by mamlatdars," he said.
Monserrate also said that the government has identified 25,000 square metres of land along the road to Assonora for the setting up of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) unit for Goa.

Yuri flags tampering in BhuNaksha land map; govt says it will probe
PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said an inquiry will be ordered and action taken against those responsible after Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao alleged corruption and a scam where BhuNaksha mapping was digitally tampered with and altered to benefit some hotels and commercial entities.
"I have learnt that one crore has been taken per alteration. You have to pin-point responsibility and take action," Alemao said, demanding suspension of the officials responsible for it.
Earlier, Revenue Minister Atanasio Monserrate admitted that there were some discrepancies in the BhuNaksha land mapping and added that all cases that came to their notice have been reverted.
Revenue Minister Babush Monserrate told the Goa Assembly that discrepancies in the BhuNaksha land mapping system were detected and corrected, with CM Sawant assuring a full probe.
