Says order applicable to voters' cases under appeal or decided after declaration of Final roll
MARGAO
The Goa Team monitoring SIR has dashed off a letter to the Chief Electoral officer, Goa drawing his attention to a Supreme Court order and to make the order applicable to all voters whose cases have been decided or are still under process on or after declaration of Final Roll ie. 21/02/2026.
In his letter, Team Goa Convenor Elvis Gomes pointed out that it has been one month since the final electoral roll was published after the strenuous SIR undertaken by the CEO as directed by the ECI.
While the process followed in enumeration/verification still doesn't appear convincing, he further pointed out there are several cases still in various stages of being heard in appeal and often are getting considered favourably.
“ Notwithstanding your assurance during the SIR team's last meeting with you, there was considerable doubt in the minds of people in the absence of official communication as to whether such cases would be considered as part of the Final Roll or not”, he said.
In this respect, Gomes drew attention of the CEO to the Supreme Court order, wherein the Apex Court observed “We deem it appropriate to invoke our powers under Article 142 of the Constitution of India and declare that the voters enlisted in subsequent supplementary lists shall be deemed to have been part of the final list published.”
Gomes said the SC order therefore is applicable in the case of all voters whose cases have been decided or are still under process on or after declaration of Final Roll ie. 21/02/2026.
