PANAJI: A 21-page suicide note recovered by police is offering new insight into the deaths of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office bearer and his teenage son. The note, recovered during the ongoing investigation, suggests the father was gripped by fears about his son’s ill-mannered behaviour.
Police sources said the note, allegedly written by Sanjay Mhapsekar, 59, described mounting anxiety that his 14-year-old son, Sanchit, might harm his elder sister. The note referred to the boy’s association with “bad company,” though the nature of these influences remains unclear.
Quoting the suicide note, sources said, the man described his son as increasingly defiant and difficult to manage, which allegedly deepened over time.
It also pointed to Mhapsekar’s prolonged emotional distress following the death of his wife three years ago.
Police said preliminary findings indicate that Mhapsekar likely killed his son before taking his own life. A post-mortem examination conducted at Goa Medical College found that the boy died of strangulation, while Mhapsekar died after consuming poison.
The bodies were discovered around 6 pm on March 16, when Mhapsekar’s daughter returned home only to see the lifeless bodies, and alerted the police. Amidst a detailed investigation, police are examining the contents of the note to reconstruct the sequence of events.
