BICHOLIM

Three houses were damaged while several trees got uprooted as heavy rains accompanied by strong winds disrupted life in Bicholim taluka

Trees came crashing down on the houses of Ramlo Sawant at Sarvan, Sanjeev Hosmani and Sulochana Hosmani in Chimulwada-Lamgao. Trees also got uprooted and fell in Pilgao, Lamgao, Sarvan, Sanquelim and Mayem areas.

The falling of trees also disrupted traffic on several roads and snapped electricity wires, cutting off power supply at many places. Waterlogging was also reported in low-lying areas, causing inconvenience to people.

Under the guidance of Bicholim Fire Station Officer Rahul Desai, firefighters were engaged in relief work and to clear the debris.

While all four gates of the Anjunem Dam were opened on Friday, the water level at the Tillari Dam is under control due to removal of silt this year.

When contacted, Bicholim Deputy Collector Nehal Talwanekar said relief work was underway to clear the trees which had fallen in different places.

Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye and Mayem MLA Premendra Shet were reviewing the situation in their respective constituencies and directed the Emergency Control Room to immediately provide assistance.
