Valpoi assault: Neck injury after loud spark, police probe unknown weapon

PANAJI: After 35-year-old Mohammad Akhtar Alam, a labourer from Bihar, was injured near Karapur-Tisk junction in Sattari last week, what was initially reported as a gunshot is now uncertain. Police say the injury may have been caused by an object thrown at him.

According to a press note, Alam, who was sitting near the junction around 7:30 pm on Saturday with two others, heard a loud noise resembling an electric spark. When he turned, an object struck the right side of his neck, causing bleeding. His two companions said they called Alam’s brother and helped take him first to CHC Sankhalim, after which he was referred to GMC Bambolim for further treatment.

The eyewitnesses confirmed the loud noise and the impact, but did not see anyone nearby. Local residents reported hearing nothing unusual.

Valpoi Police have registered the case under CR No. 55/2025 (Sections 125, 118 BNS 2023). Investigation is ongoing, and the attacker has not been identified.
