Mandrem vendor duped into parting jewellery worth Rs 1.8 lakh

A flower vendor from Askawada-Mandrem was duped into parting with her gold jewellery worth Rs 1.8 lakh on Saturday morning.

According to Mandrem police, the incident took place at about 8.15 am when a man in his mid-thirties and wearing a black mask approached Vishranti Gadekar (57) at the Bhagwati temple in Deulwada-Mandrem. Claiming to be a goldsmith, the man lured Gadekar to hand over her gold ornaments to him.

The unsuspecting flower vendor handed over two gold bangles and a gold chain, all worth Rs 1.8 lakh, to the man, who then fled from the site. Gadekar later lodged a complaint with the Mandrem police, and a case under Sections 316 (2), 318(4) of BNS 2023 has been registered.
