Valpoi police arrested Vishal alias Vishwas Zarmekar from Nanora on Wednesday night on charges of stealing money from the donation box at the Brahmadev temple in Brahmakarmali-Sattari on Tuesday night.
Valpoi police had obtained photos of the suspect from CCTV footage installed in the temple and the accused is suspected of being involved in other cases.
After the burglary had been reported to the police, the North Goa SP had directed DySP Wilson D'Souza, Police Inspectors Viddesh Shirodkar and Police Inspector Vijay Rane to supervise investigations into the case.
When the person in the CCTV footage was identified, he was located at Nanora and taken into custody. He was arrested after confessing to have broken into the fund box.
Meanwhile, the temple committee has commended the police for cracking the case within 12 hours.
Temple Committee President Sagar Desai thanked residents, devotees and all temple committee members for showing unity in the matter and for cooperating with the police.
