Sarpanch of Verla-Canca and Congressman Milton Marques was laid to rest in presence of his relatives and several leaders in Parra on Saturday evening.
Ports Minister, Michael Lobo, former deputy CM and Fatorda MLA Vijai Serdesai, former WRD minister and Siolim MLA Vinod Paliencar, former housing minister and Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar, former minister and senior BJP leader Dayanand Mandrekar and several other leaders and panchayat members were present to pay tributes to the long term sarpanch, who breathed his last on Friday. Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President, Girish Chodankar, North Goa District Congress chief Vijay Bhike and other senior Congress leaders also paid homage to the leader.
A resident of Verla-Canca, Milton Marques (60) passed away on Friday evening after suffering a heart attack.
He has left behind his wife and two children.
A well-known businessman Marques was into active politics for the last 25 years.
Apart from being in panchayat politics for almost two decades he also unsuccessfully contested the assembly elections thrice from the Siolim constituency.
He was also elected as a Zilla Panchayat member from Anjuna constituency.
His first shot in the assembly elections was in 1989 when he contested as an Independent candidate.
In 1999, he contested as a Congress candidate and again as a coalition candidate on NCP ticket in 2007.
On both the occasions he lost to BJP’s Dayanand Mandrekar.
