SANGUEM
A woman was seriously injured after a scooter and a motorcycle collided with each other in a road mishap at Orcotto-Sanguem on Tuesday.
The woman sustained a fractured leg in the impact and was initially rushed to the Sanguem Health Centre for treatment. Owing to the severity of her injuries, she was later shifted to the South Goa District Hospital for further medical care.
The accident has once again brought into focus long-standing safety concerns at the busy Orcotto junction.
Residents of Orcotto and surrounding areas have repeatedly demanded the installation of speed breakers and other traffic-calming measures at the junction, where three roads intersect. One road leads to the Salaulim Dam, another to Molcornem, while the third connects to Sanguem town.
Locals pointed out that the junction has witnessed several accidents in the past and urged the authorities to take immediate steps to improve road safety before another serious mishap occurs.
