Over one lakh registration forms have been distributed to people across the State as part of the Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana (DDSSY).

According to Goa Electronics Limited (GEL), who have undertaken the process of registering and issuing smart cards to beneficiaries of DDSSY, over a lakh have already submitted their forms and the process of verification is currently underway.

Speaking to The Goan, GEL chairman Dattaprasad Naik said, “we have through the kendras and camps held across the State distributed over a lakh forms and have received an equal number and are currently in the process of verifying the documents we have received.”

The State government had on Statehood Day in May, launched the health insurance scheme that is aimed at providing health insurance for 447 illnesses and procedures at government and empaneled private hospitals.

Naik said since its launch, the response to the scheme has been positive as was evident from the several camps held across the State. “The response to the registration has been fantastic. In fact, Valpoi has one of the highest number of registrations contrary to what the former Valpoi health minister has claimed,” said Naik.

As per the protocol, the submitted forms will go through a process of verification and will be matched with the Elector's Photo Identity Card (EPIC). Though smart cards have not been handed over to beneficiaries as yet, GEL has claimed will start distribution of cards after July 20.

The DDSSY is aimed at covering the entire population of Goa who have residing in the State for a minimum of five years, excluding government employees.

Registration is currently being undertaken at 16 DDSSY kendras across the State as well as through MLAs and camps organized by the State government. The kendras function from health centres, district hospitals and urban health centres across talukas. A one time registration fee of Rs 200 for a family of three or less and Rs 300 for a family of four and above is also being charged.

Insurance coverage given to a family of three is Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 4 lakh for a family of four or more members. Officially, procedures at the Goa Medical College will be applicable under the scheme on August 15, this year.
