2-wheelers skid on oil spill   on Corlim to Kundaim road

The tanker, from which the oil leaked on the road from Corlim to Kundaim, was seen parked at Kundaim.

Several two-wheelers skidded as oil from a tanker truck spilled on the road along a 5-km stretch between Corlim and Kundaim.

According to information available, the oil leakage from the tanker began at Corlim which led to many bikes skidding in the area.

Sources informed that despite the oil leakage, the driver of the tanker continued the onwards journey before halting at Kundaim, while spilling oil all along the way.

The incident was reported to the Old Goa fire station and the personnel immediately arrived and put sand over the oil to prevent skidding of two-wheelers.

A fireman Vilas Parab informed that they received a call at around 8.20 am that oil has leaked on the road which has resulted in many two-wheelers skidding.

“We immediately arrived at the site and began covering the oil with sand and mud,” Parab informed.

Meanwhile, fire officer Ganesh Govekar informed that it took more than five hours to clear the oil spillage on the road.

“Both the fire personnel of Old Goa fire station as well as Kundaim fire station were involved in the exercise in which the oil was first covered with sand and mud and then the road was washed with water using the fire tenders,” Govekar said.
