With over 30 per cent of the commercial establishments in the commercial capital operating sans the mandatory trade licence, the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) has mulled an intensive drive against the shops and businesses running without the civic license.

In this connection, MMC Chairperson Damu Shirodkar has made a fervent plea to Madgavkars and Fatordekars to obtain the mandatory trade license within the next one month and avoid action by the civic body.

“We have decided to launch an intensive drive against establishments operating without the mandatory trade licences. Our Municipal inspectors and their teams will fan out to Margao and Fatorda to unearth such establishments which have no licences at all to run the shops,” he said.

The civic body will offer help and assistance to the business establishments  which are keen in obtaining the licenses, but certain factors prevent them to do so.

He further informed that instances of double lease agreements have come to light, wherein the shop owners submitted a different lease agreement to the MMC with a reduced amount of rent.
