VALPOI
Valpoi police have seized 400 kgs of beef at the Keri checkpost during a routine inspection late Thursday night.

The police have arrested two individuals from Karnataka and impounded the Scorpio jeep in which the beef was being transported.

The vehicle, travelling from Belagavi to Goa, was stopped at the Keri checkpoint around midnight. Under the supervision of Police Sub-Inspector Khushali Naik, all vehicles were being thoroughly inspected at the time.

Upon inspection, a significant quantity of beef was found in the vehicle. The driver was unable to produce any documents to justify the transport of the beef, prompting the police to seize the vehicle. The two arrested suspects, Wasim Hongal and Sahil Ahmed Akhtar, both from Karnataka, were taken into custody. Veterinary officers were called to the scene to inspect the beef, and after conducting a panchnama, the beef was disposed of.

This marks the fourth such incident in the past six months, with illegal beef transportation from Karnataka to Goa continuing despite heightened vigilance. The ongoing illegal activities have led to growing concerns from local citizens, who have urged the authorities to maintain stricter surveillance at the Keri checkpost.
