Power Minister Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar has strongly criticised the Opposition parties – the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress – for "politicising" the issue of a proposed nuclear power plant in Goa. Dhavalikar accused the Opposition of "creating fear" among the public with reports suggesting such a proposal.

Dhavalikar asserted that no such proposal has been made by the government but added that it is the government's duty to examine new technologies that are emerging.

“We never said we would have a nuclear plant in Goa. Neither the Union Minister, the State government, nor anyone else,” Dhavalikar said while speaking to journalists.

“It is our duty to study new technologies. That doesn’t mean we are bringing a nuclear power plant to Goa,” he said and accused the Opposition of misleading the public and politicising the matter.

“AAP and Congress need not tell me what is good for Goa. I am ready to have a discussion with them if they wish,” Dhavalikar said even as he claimed that the government’s intention is to explore the best and safest solutions for the State’s future energy needs.
