The State team's preparatory camp for National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy kicked off under coach Armando Colaco at the Rosary ground, Navelim on Wednesday. Forty-one players have been summoned for the camp and 31 reported to the camp which will continue till the team departs for the qualifying round in Gujarat.
"Our aim is to qualify from the West Zone. The qualifiers are a few days away, and we can't relax," Colaco said. "The key is to minimise your mistakes. Players need to figure out more options when the ball is at their feet to optimise the chances," the FC Bardez coach stated after putting the players through their paces during a training session on Thursday.
Goa last clinched the coveted trophy in 2008-09 and had finished runners-up to Bengal in 2016-17 when the State hosted the championship. Talking about his team's chances in the championship, Colaco said, "I believe we are a balanced side and have a good blend of youth and experience. The team is gelling well. I believe the boys are ready to be tested."
