Betul-Naqueri village panchayat’s long pending demand for a panchayat ghar will finally see light of the day.

For, the Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC), which has an institute atop the Naqueri plateau and which will play host to the India Energy Week to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 6, has made available land admeasuring 3,000 square metres at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday laid the foundation stone for the panchayat ghar project in the presence of Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa and the executive officers of ONGC on Saturday evening.

Speaking on the occasion, the Quepem MLA thanked the ONGC officer Sanjeev Sehgal and others for making available the Commission and agreeing to construct the ghar at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore. He further said the ONGC will build two crematoriums for the local villagers at the site.

The Quepem requested the Chief Minister to fullfill the long pending demand of the Betul villagers for IDC acquired land admeasuring 10,000 square metres for a playground and to set up a police outpost and other public utility services.

In his address, the Chief Minister thanked the ONGC management for the gesture of making available land for the Betul panchayat ghar and also bearing the construction cost.

Meanwhile, Opposition leader Yuri Alemao has complimented the Quepem MLA for his initiative in building the Betul panchayat ghar with CSR from the ONGC. “This was the long pending demand of the villagers of Betul. So many assurances were handed out to the villagers by politicians. Congress MLA Altone has fulfilled the demand with CSR from the ONGC,” Yuri added.
