Firefighters are battling a major fire that engulfed a café at Colva early Saturday morning.

A café was completely gutted in a major fire at Colva early Saturday morning, destroying property worth lakhs of rupees.
The incident was reported to the Margao fire brigade at around 6.30 in the morning. Fire Officer Gill D’Souza said that the fire must have started over an hour before it was finally spotted by people after smoke billowing out from the shop.
Gill said most of the items in the café including the refrigerators, furniture, air conditioners have been completely gutted. He said the walls of the café have also been damaged in the incident.
An air conditioner of a dental clinic located on the first floor of the building has also been damaged.
To a question, Gill said that property worth over Rs 25 lakh has been gutted in the fire. Investigations are underway.
