Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has called for political unity across party lines to help implement the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, calling the next phase a crucial moment in India’s democratic journey.
In an appeal ahead of the special sitting of Parliament scheduled from April 16, Sawant urged leaders from both the ruling side and the opposition, along with Members of Parliament, to come together in support of the law aimed at improving women’s representation in legislatures.
Referring to the law passed in 2023, the Chief Minister said the country is at a “turning point” and must now focus on proper implementation. He said the progress of society depends on the empowerment of women, adding that their growing role in different fields should also be seen in governance.
Sawant said the move comes after consultations with constitutional experts and is an important step towards fulfilling a long-standing national commitment. He stressed that the effort goes beyond politics and offers a chance to strengthen gender equality.
Supporting the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister urged all stakeholders to back the reform and help strengthen democratic institutions.
He added that a united approach would ensure the success of the law and lay a strong foundation for more inclusive governance in the future.
