Tense scenes were witnessed at Sunday’s Gram Sabha in Sanvordem, with villagers raising strong questions before the panchayat over pending issues related to the scrapped Mirabag bandhara project.

The meeting saw heated arguments as residents confronted the Deputy Sarpanch and panchayat members over delays in refilling and restoring the dug-up area at the proposed bandhara site. Protesters demanded accountability, asking why corrective work had not begun despite assurances after the government decided to scrap the project.

Villagers expressed strong dissatisfaction over the slow progress and sought clear timelines for restoration work. The atmosphere turned tense during the discussions, with repeated interruptions and loud protests from those present.

The Gram Sabha saw large participation from local residents, many of whom had earlier joined the long agitation against the Rs 280-crore Mirabag bandhara project. Concerns over environmental damage and safety risks caused by excavation along the riverbank once again dominated the meeting.

Residents also questioned the panchayat over the delay in holding the Gram Sabha and asked why it was not conducted during the peak of the agitation in the village. With no clear answers from the panchayat members, angry villagers called for the proceedings to be stopped, while demanding clarity on what action the panchayat had taken to oppose the proposed project at Mirabag.
