The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Sunday alleged large-scale irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, claiming that official records show clear violations of rules for filing objections.
Speaking to the media after submitting a representation to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), GPCC President Amit Patkar said election rules allow a maximum of 10 objections per person. However, Form-10 records show that some individuals filed as many as 78 objections in a single day. He claimed that in the Navelim constituency alone, 384 objection forms were submitted on January 15, which was earlier the last date for filing objections and claims.
The Election Commission of India has since extended the deadline to Monday, January 19.
Patkar named a few individuals from Navelim who allegedly filed 78, 48 and 44 objections each.
Calling this a “planned and deliberate misuse” of the SIR process, he alleged that genuine Goan voters were being removed from the electoral rolls. He demanded that Form-10 for all constituencies be uploaded immediately to ensure transparency.
The Congress leader also sought strict action against officials allegedly involved in what he described as “illegal deletions”, warning that such actions weaken the electoral process.
The Goa Congress said it would strongly oppose any attempt to manipulate the voters’ list and would stand with Goan voters to protect democratic processes.
