A 47-year-old head constable attached to the Vasco Railway Police Station collapsed while on patrolling duty at Vasco Railway Station on Saturday night, marking the second such incident involving a police personnel within the Vasco police jurisdiction in recent months.
The deceased, Santosh Gogle, was on routine patrol when he suddenly collapsed on the station premises around 8.20 pm. He was immediately shifted in a 108 ambulance to the Sub-District Hospital at Chicalim, Vasco, where the doctor on duty declared him brought dead.
Gogle, a resident of Kiratlem, Baina, Vasco, was living near Rita General Store. During the enquiry, police found that he had a history of heart-related problems. An inquest panchanama was conducted and the body was sent to the South Goa District Hospital, Margao, for post-mortem.
The autopsy confirmed that the cause of death was a heart attack due to a blocked coronary artery in a case of existing heart disease. After completion of medico-legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family for last rites.
The Vasco Railway Police registered a case of unnatural death. The enquiry was conducted by PI Amarnath Passi under the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
Earlier, a 39-year-old senior constable from the SB Branch had also died while on duty at the Vasco police station after collapsing at work and being rushed to hospital.
