Calangute police registered an unnatural death case after a 44-year-old security guard was found dead by hanging near Namaste Spa, close to St Anthony Chapel, Calangute, on Sunday morning.
According to police sources, at around 10.13 am, the Police Control Room received a call informing about a person who had allegedly committed suicide by hanging at the location.
During the preliminary inquiry, police found that the deceased had hanged himself from a concrete window pole using a nylon rope as the ligature material.
The deceased was identified as Nishikanta Das, son of Balaram Das, aged 44 years, a resident near Namaste Spa, St Anthony Chapel, Calangute. He was a native of Odisha.
Police said that Das was employed as a security guard with Black Cat Security Agency for the past two to three years. The body was lowered and shifted to the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Candolim, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Subsequently, the body was sent for preservation to the Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, under police escort for further medico-legal formalities.
An unnatural death case has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Vishwajit Dhavlikar of Calangute Police Station.
