The Congress has come down heavily on the State government over what it described as the “shocking and disgraceful” condition of the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Office in Mapusa, alleging that the premises have virtually turned into a dump yard, reflecting a complete administrative collapse.
Chairman of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee’s (GPCC) Media Department, Amarnath Panjikar, said the office – responsible for shaping Goa’s urban future – now resembles a garbage warehouse rather than a functioning planning department.
"The premises are littered with broken furniture, discarded materials, and trash. Items are even dumped along pathways and near the entrance to the washroom," he said.
Panjikar claimed that the unsanitary and cluttered environment is forcing citizens to fill out forms and conduct official work in “deplorable and undignified” surroundings.
“This is not just an inconvenience – it is an insult to the people who come here to access essential public services. It shows a complete lack of basic civic sense and administrative responsibility,” he stated.
The Congress leader sought to know if this was the government’s vision for urban development.
“Why is the department being run like a dump site instead of a professional planning office meant to serve the people of Goa? Where is the accountability?” he asked.
Calling the condition of the office a “shameful irony,” Panjikar said it was unacceptable that a department entrusted with urban planning cannot maintain its own workplace.
He demanded immediate intervention by the minister and a public apology to the people of Goa for subjecting them to such substandard and disrespectful conditions.
The Congress has urged the government to take swift action to clean, repair and maintain the Mapusa TCP Office and ensure that all government offices maintain a standard benefiting public service institutions.
